Waterman House Cookery School (previously James Street South Cookery School)
Hill Street, Belfast County Antrim
Full–time (30 hours per week) or Part–time (evening & weekend)
Waterman House Cookery School, is the newly revamped James Street South Cookery School, following a physical move and financial investment to bigger and better premises in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.
Operating since 2011 our cookery school offers fun cookery classes, to all ages and abilities. The classes are family friendly, and our main aim is for people to relax and cook while having fun, feeling at home, and learning a new skill. Operated independently by Niall McKenna and his team of chefs from James St. and Hadskis, we are keen to appoint a dedicated Chef for the new premises.
The ideal candidate will have:
Skills & Experience
Over 10 years professional kitchen /cooking experience, with extensive knowledge.
Excellent verbal communicator in fluent English; Passion for food; Strong initiative and proactive; Strong organisational & prioritising skills; Attention to detail; Ability to cope with busy and challenging environments & work to fast deadlines.
Fun and upbeat; Entertaining; Good communicator; Ability to work independently and as a team; Flexible; Highly efficient; Reliable / Punctual; A people person; Trustworthy and steadfast; Resourceful; Hard working with the ability help grow the business.
The job role includes:
Kitchen / Cookery School
Complete Kitchen Mis–en place for Classes; Leading / Assisting during cookery classes; Helping and guiding students / customers; Recipe testing; General kitchen upkeep, including washing and deep cleaning / setting up of class.
Office / General
Working with the office/restaurant teams on class content / confirmations / private classes & schedules; developing new classes.
Providing content for Instagram stories/ Promotion & website during classes.
Times may vary but will include mainly evenings and weekends.

This year we launched a Front of House Apprenticeship Programme to run alongside our Chef Apprenticeship Programme.
Working with the Belfast Met we train our apprentices to NVQ level 2 which will give you a great grounding on the skills and requirements for a career in the hospitality sector.
We have been operating a Chef Apprenticeship since 2014 and we are keen to recruit 12 apprentices for our chef program and 12 apprentices for our Front of House Programme. The programme is for young people between the ages of 16 and 24.
